When and how are the courses conducted? What do you need for registration?
The German courses usually take place both in the classroom at IBZ Dortmund and online.
The C1 course comprises 200 units of 45 minutes, including 20 units extra practice to train your communicative skills (i.e. speaking skills).
The prerequisite for participation in C1 is an B2 certificate with approx. 200 units.
What you will learn during the course
The C1 German course at IBZ Dortmund is aimed at prospective students and professionals. The intensive course teaches university-related and job-related speaking, reading, writing and listening skills and quickly prepares German learners for taking up a degree or for professional life. In addition to working on DSH-typical task formats, you also practice other language test formats such as telc or testdaf.
Level C1.1
In C1.1 (approx. 100 units) you will deal with demanding texts from subject areas such as politics, science, the environment, nature or medicine. Among other things, you will practice describing and comparing experiences, discussing problems, discussing scientific questions, analyzing and assessing problems. Depending on the needs, the text work is combined with vocabulary expansion and further development of speaking and writing skills and with explanations of the difficulties of German grammar. At the end of the course, thanks to their in-depth knowledge of German, they will be able to conduct conversations and discussions on study-related and special topics relevant to them at a high linguistic level and to produce corresponding written texts.
Level C1.2
In C1.2 (approx. 100 units) you intensify the dealing with current, demanding topics from politics, science, the environment, nature or medicine. For training we use sample exams from DSH exams, telc exams and testdaf exams. The work on vocabulary expansion and the development of speaking and writing skills with the discussion of difficulties in German grammar. At the end of the course, you will be able to apply the knowledge and skills you have already acquired in C1.1 proficiently thanks to your more in-depth knowledge of German.
C1+ additional exam preparation
In C1+ (approx. 80 units) we will bring you closer to the specific format and special requirements of the three exams telc Deutsch C1 HS, DSH and TestDaF. We also use mock exams and teach strategies and techniques you need to solve the tasks effectively and successfully. There are many exercises to improve listening and reading skills, to improve oral expression, to write text productions and to practice scientific language structures so that you understand scientific texts better. Oral presentations followed by discussions are also part of our program.
Your skills after the course
At the end of this course you can understand a wide range of demanding, longer clauses and recognise implicit meaning. You can express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Furthermore, you can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Lastly, you can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
