When and how are the classes conducted? What are the requirements for registration?
The German courses usually take place both in the classroom at IBZ Dortmund and online.
The B2 course comprises 200 units of 45 minutes, including 15 units extra practice to train your communicative skills (i.e. speaking skills).
The prerequisite for participation in B2 is an B1 certificate with 180 to 200 units.
What you will learn during the course:
The B2 German course at the IBZ Dortmund is aimed at learners who want to study in Germany, as well as learners who want to acquire general language skills, e.g. for professional life.
The course comprises approx. 200 units of 45 minutes. In the B2 course, we will deal intensively with task formats typical of exams such as DSH and telc and, compared to B1, listen to and read much longer and more complex texts that are accompanied by an enormous amount of new vocabulary, whereby we will deal almost exclusively with scientific topics.
Level B2.1
In B2.1 (approx. 100 units), we will deal with many new aspects of German grammar: We will first repeat the transformation of active and passive clauses as well as relative clauses and participial attributes. We will also deal with the topic of nominalization and verbalization of information and supplements. Other topics of the B2.1 course are alternative expressions for modal verbs and passive forms. In the field of production of texts we deal with essays, formal letters, discussions, statements and graphic descriptions. In the field of oral communication, we will practice summarizing and discussing texts, weighing pros and cons, presenting data, expressing opinions, agreeing and disagreeing with other people and making short presentations.
Level B2.2
In B2.2 course (approx. 100 units), in addition to the topics already introduced, we will also deal intensively with the subjunctive 1 in the present and perfect, noun-verb connections, modal participles and the subjective use of modal verbs to indicate the Probability or the source of information. In text production, we will get to know more idioms and write more complex texts. As the course progresses, you will work on reading and listening comprehension more independently, with both reading and listening comprehension becoming increasingly difficult.
Your skills after the course
At the end of the course, you will be able to understand the main content of complex texts on concrete and abstract topics, and you will also understand technical discussions in your own specialist area. You can communicate spontaneously and fluently and have a normal conversation with native speakers without much effort on either side. You can produce clear and detailed texts on a wide range of subjects, explain a point of view on a topical issue and give the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
